Maricopa County breaks ground on West Valley shelter in Glendale
Maricopa County officials broke ground this morning on the future West Valley animal shelter in Glendale, Arizona.
Chair Kate Brophy McGee, Vice Chair Debbie Lesko, and Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers joined others at the ceremony for the state‑of‑the‑art campus, which will include more than 600 kennels and 18 play yards.
The project will feature a "mutt-ternity" ward for dogs found with a litter of puppies, a natural walking path along New River, a grooming room, low-stimulation housing and play yards for shy and fearful dogs, and a photo studio so adoptable pets can be showcased in online profiles.
Coming May 2028 to Glendale.
