Skate-O-Mania skate car delights Albuquerque residents

A social media post from Visit Albuquerque said it can be hard “to feel sad in Albuquerque” when the Skate-O-Mania skate car crosses a person’s path.

The post describes Skate-O-Mania as a roller skating rink in Northeast Albuquerque and calls it a “true 1980s” rink. It also says the rink is best known for a cameo in Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”

According to the post, people in Albuquerque who have driven or walked around may have encountered the rink’s mobile billboard, known as the Skate-O-Mania skate car. The post says the vehicle brings “smiles and whimsy” to those who see it.

The post says one of 16 such vehicles was produced and that an even smaller number are still running. It says the car is built on a Volkswagen engine and can reach speeds of a little over 50 miles an hour.
