**Port St. Lucie Updates on Hurricane Milton: October 9 Advisory**
The City of Port St. Lucie is closely monitoring Hurricane Milton, which has caused significant rain and tornado activity this afternoon. As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9, officials advise residents to avoid driving due to dangerous conditions including confirmed tornadoes, downed traffic lights, trees, and power lines, as well as water on the roads.
A precautionary boil water notice will be in effect for all water customers starting tonight at 8 p.m. This measure is being taken to ensure the safety of residents in case of potential water main breaks due to the storm. Residents are encouraged to fill containers with tap water before 8 p.m. for drinking purposes. If consuming water after this time, it should be boiled for at least two minutes prior to use. The notice will be lifted once the storm has passed and the water facilities are deemed safe for service.
In addition, the St. Lucie County landfill will be closed on Thursday, October 10. Trash collection services by FCC Environmental Services will also be suspended that day. If conditions have improved, collection will resume with Thursday's pickups occurring on Friday, October 11, and Friday's pickups on Saturday, October 12. Residents should not put out any waste on Thursday.
All City facilities will be closed on October 10. There are no reported compromises to the water system at this time, and residents can call the Port St. Lucie Utilities Department at 772-873-6400 for any water or sewer service issues.
For ongoing updates, residents can visit the City’s dedicated Hurricane Milton webpage at www.cityofpsl.com/milton or use the 1PSL customer service system at 772-871-1775. Residents should also follow the City on social media for the latest information.
