Leo Niemczyk has been appointed as the new chief of the Port St. Lucie Police Department. His swearing-in ceremony took place on November 6. Niemczyk has served as the assistant chief since November and has been with the police department for 22 years.

Mayor Shannon Martin praised Niemczyk, noting his exceptional leadership skills and experience in public safety. She emphasized that Niemczyk's extensive knowledge of the city will be beneficial as Port St. Lucie continues to grow. His focus on community policing and crime prevention strategies is expected to support the city's commitment to safety.

Niemczyk takes over the position from Chief Richard Del Toro, who was elected St. Lucie County Sheriff on November 5.
